The Trade-Off With Sea Salt Spray

Beach hair, minus the grit

There's nothing like the way our hair looks after a full day at the beach. Salt air, sun, swimming, and somehow everyone comes home with their best hair of the summer. My daughter with the softer hair especially, hers looks incredible after a day in the ocean, waves everywhere, none of the usual struggle to hold a shape.

We loved the look. What we didn't love was the grit, that slightly rough, almost sandy feel that came with it by the time we got home.

So I started looking into what sea salt sprays are actually doing to hair, since I wanted that same look without the part we didn't love.

We wanted the beach day hair. We just didn't want to need the sea salt to get it.

What's actually happening when salt works

Sea salt creates that texture by roughening the hair's outer layer as it dries, giving each strand something to grip onto instead of lying flat. That's the real trick behind beach hair, and it's a big part of why my daughter's waves look so good after a swim. Her hair is soft enough that a little roughening is exactly what it needed.

The same property that creates that grip is also pulling moisture out of your hair the whole time it's working. It doesn't stop once your waves look good.

Why we didn't go with salt

Used often, or on hair that already runs dry, that trade-off adds up: rough, brittle, more prone to breakage. And it doesn't work the same for everyone. Hair that needs more moisture to stay smooth gets frizz instead of texture from the same spray that works beautifully on softer strands.

We wanted the grip and hold of a sea salt spray, minus the roughening that comes with it, and a formula that worked the same way for everyone, not just the hair type salt happens to be kind to.

We wanted the texture. We just didn't want the trade-off.

What our Wave Spray does instead

Our Wave Spray creates that same texture and hold using a lightweight, plant-based ingredient instead of sea salt, so hair gets the grip it needs without losing what keeps it soft. Aloe Vera works alongside it, smoothing the cuticle and adding lightweight hydration, so waves form without the dryness salt usually leaves behind.

Same grip. Same hold. None of the salt.

A wave that doesn't ask you to trade

The wave you loved was never really about the ocean. It was sea salt doing exactly what it's built to do, texture in exchange for moisture.

With our Wave Spray the same effortless, touchable wave is still there. You just get to keep the moisture, and the healthy hair, along with it.
